Nancy Kerrigan
born 1969

Stoneham; Boston
Nancy Kerrigan grew up in Stoneham and developed her skating skills at Massachusetts rinks. Figure skating required her to combine jumps and spins with timing, balance, and musical expression. She won a bronze medal at the 1992 Winter Olympics and a silver medal at the 1994 Games, as well as the 1993 United States championship. Her connection to the Boston skating community continued beyond Olympic competition. Studying Kerrigan's athletic work helps show how years of practice, coaching, and family support can prepare a person for a performance lasting only a few minutes.
