Town meeting challenge
A fictional island town has 12 planning tokens. Discuss a proposal, hear concerns, revise it, and hold a practice vote.
This is an invented classroom budget, not a real town’s finances. Tokens do not represent actual costs. Real town meetings follow warrants, rules, eligibility requirements, and sometimes different voting thresholds. Tribal government is distinct from municipal government.
1. Make a proposal
Within the 12-token budget. 8 / 12
2. Hear different concerns
A resident who uses a wheelchair
“Can everyone use the public entrance?” This is a fictional classroom voice, not a quote from an island resident.
A student who uses the library
“Where can I learn when school is closed?” Consider who benefits from different opening hours.
A road worker
“Which repair is most urgent, and what evidence tells us?” Ask for condition data before choosing.
A habitat caretaker
“How will this decision affect living things over time?” Short-term and long-term effects may differ.
3. Practice a class vote
For this practice only, a proposal passes when Yes is greater than No. A tie does not pass. Abstentions are recorded separately. This rule is not a guide to every real warrant article.
