Massachusetts connection

Martha’s Vineyard and Cambridge

Caleb was a Wampanoag scholar from Martha’s Vineyard. In 1665 he became the first Native American to graduate from Harvard College. His story connects island learning with the college’s early history. It also raises questions about whose languages and knowledge schools have valued.
